Recently chosen as “The Cool Site of the Day,” PimpMyNews offers consumers a new method for obtaining news, weather, sports, entertainment, and other information via IPod. This “talking social news application,” transforms text into audio.
PimpMyNews searches the web continuously for the latest news and information and then transforms the text into MP3s. IPhone and IPod touch users can keep up to date on the latest information while doing other things, including driving, since they can listen to rather than reading about current events.
Since the recent launch in December, the site boasts hundreds of thousands of items to choose from with thousands more added daily. It also boasts visitors from nearly 100 countries since its inception, according to EMediaWire.
Getting the nod from Apple by way of being awarded a “Staff Pick” is quite an endorsement for PimpMyNews. The service allows users to customize their news and information from popular news venues including blogs, to create a “personalized talking newspaper.”
Users can rate items to indicate popularity. Another feature is the ability to pass along stories to friends and family or post them on favorite networking sites.
The best part about the service? It's free.
