In an attack on a luxury hotel in Kabul, Afghanistan orchestrated by the Taliban fighters, at least six people have died. The Serena is the main hotel for those who are visiting internationally.
The big blast that took place at the Serena happened when a bomber detonated his explosive jacket. At the explosion, a shooting took place afterwards. According to the interior ministry, at least six people have died. Most of the people that died were guards. But it is not known if the death toll included a Norwegian journalist.
Guests along with Norway’s foreign minister had taken refuge in the hotel’s cellar. The reporter’s name was Carsten Thomassen and had worked for Dagbladet with is a newspaper that operates in Oslo, Norway.
It was evening when the Taliban attacked the heavily guarded Serena. Zadihullah Mujahid, the spokesman for the Taliban told BBC that four militants were armed with automatic rifles, grenades, and explosive jackets.
He said that one of the attackers managed to let off the explosives within the hotel.
Jonas Gah Store, Norway’s Foreign Minister said he was in the hotel with other Norwegian officials when the attackers struck.
According to BBC’s defense and security correspondent, NATO officials say that the suicide attacks are a showing of the Taliban’s weakness and not its strength.
