Farmers in the United States produced more corn in 2007 than in any year since the end of World War II. The recent ethanol boom in the country is given credit for the record production.
BusinessWeek says that the ethanol boom in the United States is responsible for record setting production in 2007. The previous record was 11.8 billion bushels set in 2004 and in 2007 13.1 billion were produced.
Production rose by 24 per cent over 2006 and US farmers planted more corn than any previous time since the end of World War II.Corn was the choice over soybeans for many farmers across the US.
Cotton also reached a record high and was up about 57 pounds from 2006 and the previous record was 855 pounds set in 2004.
Rice also had a record year.
