On the Republican side, Senator John McCain had won the New Hampshire primary. On the Democratic side, the victory was achieved by Senator Hillary Clinton.
The exit poll of the New Hampshire primaries reveal that Hillary Clinton with the help of female voters helped her overcome Barack Obama's strong advantage with the bloc of independent voters in Democratic primaries in New Hampshire. In the case of John McCain, he used his experience as straight-forward talk to appeal to the moderate Republicans and give him a win over Mitt Romney in the Republican primaries.

According to a survey conducted for The Associated Press reveals that Hillary Clinton received forty-six perfect of the female vote. Barack Obama only got thirty-four percent of the female vote. It was the female voters that outnumbered the men in the Democratic primary by 57 to 43.

This was a wider gender gap than the Iowa caucuses in the previous week. Obama had beaten Clinton amongst men and female voters. While Barack Obama had come in second place in the New Hampshire primary, he was strong amongst the youngest voters like he was in Iowa. He won sixty percent of the 18-to-24 vote. It was even with Clinton and Obama amongst voters whom are 25-to-29 years of age.

Clinton prevailed over Obama with the elderly and those close to that mark. That was the largest age group in New Hampshire.

Voters were also asked about four personal qualities was most important for their vote. Fifty-four percent picked a candidate that can bring about the needed change. Barack Obama had won fifty-five percent of that vote while Hillary Clinton had only received twenty-eight percent.

In terms of who has the right experience, Hillary Clinton won seventy-one percent while Barack Obama only won five percent.

Exit polls reveal that six out of every ten independents opted for the Democratic contest. Amongst those independents, Barack Obama was leading among them.

One third of those that voted in the Republican primaries were independent. McCain had a trailing lead ahead of Mitt Romney. However, Romney beat McCain by thirty-eight percent by those who called themselves conservative.

In the case of Mike Huckabee, there were fewer voters who were Evangelical Christians which makes up his strongest group of supporters. Romney had also beaten Huckabee amongst conservative voters.

McCain found very strong support amongst Republican voters who had disapproved of the war in Iraq. He and Romney were even amongst voters who approved of the war in Iraq.
