According to the Screen Actors’ Guild (SAG), the members will not attend next weekend’s Golden Globe Awards in the United States. SAC is the union that represents Hollywood actors.
According to Alan Rosenberg, the president of SAG, there has been a unanimous agreement with the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) not to cross through the picket lines set up by writers who are on strike due to wanting royalties.

The Golden Globes is the second prestigious awards ceremony for TV and film actors next to the Oscars. Most of Hollywood’s top actors are members of SAG. The TV networks might not screen the event without the top actors present to attend.

According to BBC in Los Angeles, it’s difficult to have a ceremony without the actors there to accept the awards.

After considerable outreach to Golden Globe actor nominees and their representatives over the past several weeks, there appears to be unanimous agreement that these actors will not cross WGA (Writers’ Guild of America) picket lines,” according to Alan Rosenberg.

The WGA has been on strike ever since November. The strike is in regards to the dispute over residuals and royalties for work distributed online or on DVD. This had halted production of TV comedies and dramas.

While David Letterman’s show came to an agreement with WGA, Jay Leno is still subject to pickets. Recently, the WGA had called US Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee a scab for crossing picket lines to be on the Jay Leno show.
