Readers Digest has declared Moncton New Brunswick to be Canada's mots polite city. Fifteen cities were part of the survey and when it comes to holding doors for strangers Moncton won.
Reader's Digest sent two undercover reporters into 15 Canadian cities. their assignment was to carry out an informal survey in order to determine, for example, whether salesclerks thanked them for purchases and whether people would pick up a dropped folder in busy locations.
1st ; Moncton 80 per cent;
2nd Calgary and Vancouver 77 per cent.
3rd Edmonton 73 per cent.
"The Maritime cities generally did very well," said Cynthia Ann Shannon, who works with Reader's Digest in Montreal, which ranked fifth with 68 per cent.
4th Victoria, Charlottetown and St. John's, N.L., all 70 per cent.
6th Halifax and Winnipeg came 67 per cent.
7th Regina 63
8th Quebec City 62 per cent
9th Toronto 60 per cent.
14th Saskatoon 57 per cent
last 15th Ottawa 50 per cent.
