His Holines the Dalai Lama wished the world a happy new year and his fellow Tibetans a good Losar from his home in Dharmasala, India. Losar is when Tibetans celebrate the new year, and by their calendar, this is the year 2135.
According to
phayul.com, he said, “Enjoy the New Year with good spirit and make efforts to begin New Year with a commitment to evade wrongdoings and accumulate more merits."
The Dalai Lama gave His New Year greeting at a religious ceremony on December 27 at the Tsuglagkhang (Main Temple) where he was offered a grand long life prayer (Tenshug) by a group of visiting monks from the Gandan Thegchenling Monastery of Ulan Bator, Mongolia as well as some lay Buddhists from that country. The monks had just finished a five-day training retreat with the world's most famous Buddhist teacher.
“New Year 2008 is around the corner and Losar is also coming soon as well. So I want to say Tashi Delek and Happy New Year to everyone,” His Holiness said.
He added, “This could help bring more happiness and prosperity into your life and country."
