Amateur video obtained by CNN from DawnNews TV of Pakistan shows former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto slumping down into her car after being fatally shot in Rawalpindi on December 27.
The video shows no heightened security around the Bhutto vehicle, as a young man in dark clothing and sunglasses moves towards the Bhutto vehicle. Standing next to him is a man thought to be the suicide bomber, dressed in white and with cloth obscuring his face.
According to Dawn.com's online edition, Reuters reports that Sherry Rehman, a Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) spokeswoman who was traveling with Bhutto said:
She has a bullet wound at the back of her head on the left side. It came out the other (side). That was a very large wound, and she bled profusely through that.
Other reports indicated that the bullet wound to the neck severed Bhutto's windpipe.
Rehman, who also prepared Bhutto body for burial, added:
She was even bleeding while we were bathing her for the burial. The government is now trying to say she concussed herself, which is ludicrous. It is really dangerous nonsense.
NDTV.com of India reports that, ironically, Bhutto's last words were "Long Live Bhutto," before she slumped into the car seat and not "Allah," as had previously been reported. Safdar Abbassi, who was Bhutto's chief political advisor and who was sitting behind her in the car said: "She did not say anything more." His wife, Naheeb Khan, held Bhutto's head in her lap and removed her own headscarf to try to stop the deep wound from bleeding but blood continued to seep out, down Mrs. Bhutto's neck and across her blue clothing. In fact, Rehman, who bathed Bhutto in preparation for her burial, was also quoted as saying that the wound continued to bleed after Bhutto's death and during burial preparations.
Other photographs have surfaced of the inside of Bhutto's vehicle and the exterior of the car after it sustained bomb damage. Twenty-three other people died during the Bhutto assassination.
In related news, the only person on the planet who probably doesn't realize that Benazir Bhutto is dead is her mother. According to Daiji World of India, Nusrat Bhutto, who lives in Dubai, is bedridden and suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Mohammed Anvar Baig, a PPP senator and close friend of the Bhutto family, said:
We did not see any point in informing her about the Mohtarma's [Bhutto] death.
