For seven years a waitress had to endure a certain cranky customer. She tried her best to please him but could never satisfy him. She never wavered in her service, and her patience won in the end.
Melina Salazar is a waitress at Luby’s Cafeteria in Texas. She got a great gift for her excellent service just a few days before Christmas when one of her customers left $50,000 and a 2000 Buick car in his will.
The waitress had served Walter “Buck" Swords, 89, for the past seven years and she did her best to please him but nothing ever worked. All she got from him was more demands and curses. Despite his crankiness, however, her service remained the same.
Swords, a World War II veteran, died in July. In his will, he made sure Salazar received $50,000 and a 2000 Buick car after he died.
Melina couldn’t believe her luck, especially coming from a man should could never please.
I think this is a great lesson for those in customer service (and even in personal life): Just because a person is rude, your service or response doesn’t have to be the same. Great service is always rewarded in the end, and Salazar will be the first person to tell you that.
