Cara Operations Reduces Trans-fat

By Bob Ewing     Dec 28, 2007 in Food
Cara Operations runs the Swiss Chalet, Milestones, Montana's, Kelsey's and Harvey's and has announced that they will be lowering the trans-fat content of their food items in keeping with federal government guidelines.
Cara Operations owns Swiss Chalet, Milestones, Montana's, Kelsey's and Harvey's and has just announced that it will be lowering the trans fats that it uses to two per cent of all fat content for its vegetable oils and margarine spreads.
The CBC report says that Cara has decided to follow the guidelines set by the Federal government's Trans Fat Task Force.
The Task Force issued guidelines in June 2006 that called on the food industry to limit the trans fat content for all other foods to five per cent of the total fat.
Cara will begin using non-hydrogenated margarines and oils in its restaurants and will have revised menus by New Year's Day with detailed nutritional information about the food served.
