Benazir Bhutto on Al Jazeera: Osama Bin Laden Was Murdered
by Pamela Jean (GotTheScoop).
As the world mourns the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, a video is making it's rounds across the Internet. In an interview aired on Nov. 3 of this year, Pakistan's former Prime Minister states matter-of-factly that Osama Bin Laden was murdered.
On November 3 during an Al Jazeera interview British television presenter Sir David Frost discussed with Benazir Bhutto whom she thought might be responsible for the previous assassination attempt on her life.
She discusses the fact that her kids found out about the attempt before their father could tell them through text messages they had received from their friends.
Bhutto said at the time that the assassins could have come from "a gang from the Afganistan warlord Baitullah Mehsud, or Hamza bin Laden the son of Osama bin Laden, or the Pakistani Taliban in Islamabad, or by a group in Karachi."
When asked by Frost if she has sent a letter to President Musharraf asking that specific people be investigated should another attempt on her life be successful she replied:
"I sent back a letter [to President Pervez Musharraf] saying that while these groups may be used, I thought it was more important to go after the people who supported them, who organize them, who could possibly be the financers, or the organizers of the finance for those groups and I named three individuals who I thought could be their sympathizers," she said.
She spoke of how in 1993 she had been successful in stopping the rise of terrorism in Pakistan, and stated she could do it again.
She knew the forces of these groups would be doing everything they could to keep her from achieving that goal.
She did not name specifically whom the "three" individuals were, but when asked by Frost for greater details regarding their identities, she mentions Omar Sheikh and says that he murdered Osama Bin Laden.
Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh is a British-born militant of Pakistani descent with alleged links to various Islamic-based organisations, including Jaish-e-Mohammed, Al-Qaeda, and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen. He is most well-known for his alleged role in the 2002 kidnapping and murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. Sheikh Omar Saeed was arrested by Pakistani police on February 12, 2002, in Lahore, in conjunction with the Pearl kidnapping, and was sentenced to death on July 15, 2002 for killing Pearl. His judicial appeal has not yet been heard.
Pakistani President, Pervez Musharraf, in his book In the Line of Fire stated that Sheikh was originally recruited by British intelligence agency, MI6, while studying at the London School of Economics. He alleges Omar Sheikh was sent to the Balkans by MI6 to engage in jihadi operations. Musharraf later went on to state "At some point, he probably became a rogue or double agent".
On the accompanying video, at approximately the 2:15 point, Bhutto states specifically that Bin Laden has been murdered.
At no time did Frost follow up on that statement, which seemed odd.
Did Bhutto misspeak? Did she actually mean to say Daniel Pearl, or did she disclose information that has yet to be shared with the US?
What is your opinion. Is Osama Bin Laden alive or dead?
