Mortar Shells Rock Mogadishu

Mortar shell blasts and machine gun fire have rocked the Somali capital of Mogadishu breaking a lull that has lasted for several months. No deaths have been reported. Residential areas have been attacked.
An AFP report says that mortar blasts and machine-gun fire has blasted Mogadishu today during a battle between Ethiopia-backed Somali troops and rebels,
The assault shatters a lull which has lasted for several months.
Both southern and northern Mogadishu were attacked and the, residential areas were also affected. It is not yet known whether anyone was killed.
Battles between Islamist militants and Ethiopian and Somali forces early this year has caused considerable suffering and loss of life.
The strife created a serious situation that created many internally displaced people.
The violence is hampering aid efforts and may result in the aid agencies inability to deliver the much needed relief.
