Ron Paul Raises $6 Million in One Day, Breaks John Kerry's Record

On the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party supporters of presidential candidate Ron Paul organized yet another money-bomb. This time, it raised more than $6 million breaking Kerry's previous one day record of $5.7 million.

The campaign also claims to have attracted nearly 25,000 first time donors. The average donation was $102 from 58,407 individual donors. The first supporter created money-bomb, which occurred on November 5th, raised $4.2 million for the campaign. John Kerry's previous one day fund raising record for a politician was obtained the day after he received the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004. The December 16th money-bomb has brought Ron Paul's total fund raising to $18,180,027.00 for the fourth quarter; more than 3.5 times the $5 million he raised last quarter. Infact, Ron Paul is the only candidate to consistently increase fund raising amounts each quarter and he is on track to beat all of his GOP competitors for total fourth quarter fund raising. Campaign Spokesman Jesse Benton said the new money will be used to air ads and hire new staffers in the early primary states. It also helped pay for a 30 minute biographical documentary that will air in Iowa throughout the weekend of December 22nd. The campaign hopes that the money will help get Dr. Paul higher in the polls. Trevor Lyman, the 37 year old previously apolitical man behind both money-bombs, was recently interviewed by the L.A. Times. "It was very difficult for Ron Paul to get attention. We had to come up with a way for him to get press," said Lyman, who had never voted in a previous election. His strategy may have worked as Congressman Paul's fund raising events seem to be the few times he actually gets media attention.
