The US House of Representatives—led by Democrat Nancy Pelosi of California—have made a critical error that will weaken the US in the Global War on Terror. A vote of 222-199 sent legislation to the US Senate sending the wrong message to the world
“The House voted Thursday to prevent the CIA from using water boarding and other harsh interrogation methods that already are banned from use by the U.S. military,” said Renee Schoof from the Seattle Times.
This bill is to fund and set policies for the entire US Intelligence Community and it passed by a mere 23 votes. For sometime now it has been like pulling teeth for these elected officials to fully understand what is at stake in this war.
The combatants who are plotting and killing citizens of the globe—Muslim and Christian alike—wear no uniform and therefore have forfeited their rights to the Geneva Conventions. And furthermore, when they choose to participate in or fund acts of terror they have in effect given up their right to life in my opinion. Water boarding is going easy on these degenerates.
This will be vetoed according to the White House, and that is a good thing. This 110th Congress has done nothing but waste time and put the good people of this great country at risk. According to Schoof, “Other torture tactics the legislation would ban include forced nudity, beatings and electric shocks, and putting hoods over captives' heads or duct tape over their eyes.”
Not only has this weakened the US in the Global War on Terror, but it makes the impression that the US is involved in torture, and we are not. Al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations remove toe nails, mutilate and simply kill their captives. For the House to be foolish enough to believe that our methods being altered would prevent one of our soldiers from being tortured is ludicrous.
This holier than though behavior by legislators has to stop in order to protect and defend this great nation. Their meddling and increased oversight is not welcome, not wanted and is a vicious blow to humanity.
