If you Google the word "eBay" this morning in Google's search engine, the top entry is a sponsored link which says eBay but takes the visitor to Amazon.com. The ad reads: "Search for something you love. Shop now on eBay."
Instead, the shopper is taken to an Amazon page advertising iPods, Nanos and Shuffles. Similar sponsored ads for Yahoo and MSN lead to their respective websites. Ina Steiner, editor of AuctionBytes.com, questions whether the ad violates Google policies. She's inquired at Amazon, eBay and Google but hasn't heard back yet. It appears that the competition for shoppers this holiday season is intense.
