According to police, the roadside bombing that has taken place in the area south of Baghdad that has claimed the life of the Shia region police chief. Local sources say he was killed when a bomb went off near Hilla.
According to local sources, it was either a bomb or bombs that were simultaneously detonated near Hilla, which is the capital of the Babil province. The bombing as a result has taken the life of Major General Qais al-Mamoori who is the police chief of the Shia Iraqi region.
An unconfirmed report adds that two of Mamoori’s guards were also killed. This is the latest of several attacks against major senior security and political figures in southern Iraq. In an attack in August, two governors and a police chief were killed. Others have escaped attempted assassinations.
While there has been no word on those responsible for the killings. But according to correspondents, it’s possibly related to a power struggle between the Shia tribes. This is the second suicide attack in Baiji in the last two days.
Seven people have died in a bomb attack on Saturday.
