A zamboni caught fire and was badly damaged during a skating rink's intermission at the Ice Works in Aston, Pennsylvania last week. No one was injured in the blaze at the complex, which houses four rinks, an arcade, a restaurant and other businesses.
The Delaware County complex can hold up to 1,000 patrons; it was unknown how many were there when fire broke out.
According to
WPVI of Philadelphia, Captain Sean Joyce of the Green Ridge Fire Department said the propane-powered zamboni and a hydraulic fuel leak on ice posed a challenge.
We had the fire, a hazmat spill, and [had] to evacuate the building all at once...Usually ice will take care of it, but not here tonight.
