John Lennon Imagine

By Bob Ewing     Dec 7, 2007 in World
John Lennon was murdered by an alleged fan on December 8, 1980. His music has had a major impact on many people and his song Imagine is as vital today as it was when he first sang it.
There are three songs that have been a major influence in my life. There are two from the Who, that I will never forget even though they have been crassly commercialized; One is Won’t Get Fooled Again and another is Baba O’Reily.
These words from Baba O’Reily helped free my mind:
I don't need to fight
To prove I'm right
I don't need to be forgiven
And the last words of an anarchist anthem: Won’t Get fooled Again
Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss
Helped me understand the latent dangers of hierarchies.
But the influence that was even more powerful than the Who was the song Imagine by John Lennon. For me and many others the promise held within that song, that one day the world will be as one, personifies the hope that humanity can end the suffering and pain that spreads around our planet.
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
