article imageSecond Spanish Policeman Killed In "Eta Attack"

By Can Tran     Dec 5, 2007 in World
During a surveillance operation on members suspected of being apart of the Basque separatist group, Eta, a second Spanish policeman was shot and killed. Currently, three suspects are being hunted by French police.
On Tuesday, thousands of Spaniards denounced Eta during a march in Madrid. Officials have said that a man and a woman have been arrested by French police in connection to the death of the two Spanish police officers.
They were arrested in a remote southern French village called Chateauneuf de Randon. It’s reported at the time of the arrest that they were armed and carrying a large amount of money.
Third suspect is still at large.
The officers were shot at close range by the suspects who in turn fled in a hijacked vehicle. They Eta suspects recognized the police officers when they fired.
Spain’s efforts to involve Eta in talks broke down the previous year. Eta ended the ceasefire and renewed their attacks by bombings. The group has waged an armed campaign wanting Basque to be independent.
