Footprints seen around Mt.Everest stoke Yeti mystery

By Chris V. Thangham     Nov 30, 2007 in Environment
A team of producers from the Destination Truth, a US-based television channel, claim they found footprints of the mysterious Yeti, an ape-like creature similar to “Bigfoot” in the U.S. or "Sasquatch" in Canada.
The nine producers went to Mount Everest in the Himalayas and spent nearly a week in the icy Khumbu region (elevation 2,850 meters or 9,350 feet). Using infrared cameras, they claim they have found the footprints of the infamous Yeti.
Josh Gates, host of a weekly travel adventure show, told Reuters the footprints look very, very similar and nothing like bear prints.
The Sherpa porters and guides, mostly from the country of Nepal, believe there is an ape-like creature called a Yeti in the area. They say they have seen it many times in the past. There have been many similar claims, but so far no clear scientific proof has been found.
Ang Tshering Sherpa, chief of Nepal Mountaineering Association in Kathmandu, who hails from the Khumbhu region were Mount Everest is located, said: "There is a kind of mysterious creature that lives in the Himalayas,"
Gates believes these footprints were made by a Yeti and has sent evidence to the U.S. for further examination. He also claims these footprints are fresh and may have been made very recently, about 24 hours before they were discovered.
Gates told Reuters: "This print is so pristine, so good that I am very intrigued by this."
They say they will be doing more investigation regarding this in the future.
If you are a Tintin fan, you might have heard of this Yeti creature before.
Since there are so much modern equipment, including high-resolution satellites, I would imagine scientists could easily verify if these claims are true or not. In my opinion, footprints are not sufficient proof of a Yeti's existence.
Do you believe in the existence of a Yeti or Bigfoot?
