A homeowner in West Hartford,Connecticut got quite a shock while remodeling their basement. They found a hidden room with thousands of pictures of child pornography that had belonged to the houses former owner,a now deceased doctor.
According to a story in the Hartford Courant the former home of a well-known Hartford doctor contained a hidden room containing an ugly secret.
Dr. George Reardon, a former chief of endocrinology at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, had hidden thousands of images of child porn in a secret room in his basement.
The doctor, who died in 1998, had been investigated for inappropriate behavior in the 1990's but still allowed to practice medicine. The 50,000 35-mm slides and more than 100 8-mm video reels were believed to have been taken while the doctor was conducting studies on childhood sexual development.
As the Hartford Courant reports:
"The number of victims depicted in the images appears to be in the hundreds, according to police. Police, who are concerned the pictures may have been shared with others, are working with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to identify the victims. Identifying victims would allow for the prosecution of anyone in possession of the images."
Another sad case of people betraying the trust inherent in their position in life.
If we can't trust our doctors, teachers and religious leaders, who can we trust?
