According to justice officials in Saudi Arabia, the unidentified woman has confessed to an extramarital affair. She was recently sentenced to prison and a flogging after being gang-raped. The Saudi government upheld the sentence.

sentenced to ninety lashes. However, it was increased to two-hundred lashes and up to six months in jail. That was the incident that has drew international attention and criticism to the Saudi government.
According to the statement of Saudi Arabia’s ministry of justice, foreign interference has been rejected. The government insisted that the ruling and sentence was just and legal. They added that she confessed to what God has forbidden.
It’s added that the sentence will still be carried out according to Saudi law. Originally, she was supposed to be punished for the violation of gender segregation laws due to riding in the same vehicle with a man she wasn’t related to. The two of them were riding in the same car when they were attacked.
Both of them were raped according to the article. However, the statement explained that the minister of justice had expressed regrets about the role of the woman in the case. The minister added that the media put out false information and wrongly came to her defense.
The increase came on an appeal. The judges wanted to punish her for using the media to help influence her case. The sentences of the attackers were doubled from five years to ten years. Her companion would be sentenced to ninety lashes.
International community has condemned the sentence. While the United States was “astonished” by the incident, it has declined to comment on the specifics of the case.
