Who was the girl that inspired Neil Diamond to write his famous and ever popular song "Sweet Caroline"? He has now decided to reveal who the sweet little girl was that was his inspiration for his song.
After holding onto his secret for decades he has finally revealed that it was President Kennedy's daughter Caroline who was his inspiration for his smash hit "Sweet Caroline."
"I've never discussed it with anybody before — intentionally," the 66-year-old singer-songwriter told The Associated Press on Monday during a break from recording. "I thought maybe I would tell it to Caroline when I met her someday."
Last week he was able to perform the song via satellite at Caroline Kennedy's 50th birthday party and got the chance to tell her.
When he saw a photo of the president's little girl he was a young and broke songwriter.
As Yahoo Music reports:
"It was a picture of a little girl dressed to the nines in her riding gear, next to her pony," Diamond recalled. "It was such an innocent, wonderful picture, I immediately felt there was a song in there."
Years later when he was in a hotel room in Memphis, Tenn., he wrote the words and music to the song in less then an hour.
As Yahoo Music reports:
"It was a No. 1 record and probably is the biggest, most important song of my career, and I have to thank her for the inspiration," he said. "I'm happy to have gotten it off my chest and to have expressed it to Caroline. I thought she might be embarrassed, but she seemed to be struck by it and really, really happy."
The song has recently reappeared on the singles chart. It is probably in part due to the Boston Red Socks. The song is played at every home game.
As Yahoo Music reports:
"I think they consider it good luck," Diamond said, adding that the Red Sox have become his favorite baseball team.
Diamond said the return to the charts has left him speechless.
As Yahoo Music reports:
"That song was written 40 years ago, so I am just overwhelmed by the fact that it has returned and that, more importantly, people have taken it into their hearts for so many years."
I very rarely do any articles on entertainers but have always loved music by Neil Diamond and his unique voice. This song has always been among my favorites.

I love this song, they play at the Boston Red Sox games. Awesome post. Caroline Kennedy must be so happy to hear this. Here is the video link Picasso.
Cheers.
Thanks so much cgull. I still have not figured out how to post a video even though I have tried to follow the instructions.
Caroline Kennedy is 50? What the heck happened? I still remember her as a little girl and I know I haven't gotten any older so what business does she have growing older and making me look bad? ;o)
Great story. I have always liked his music but I have only seen him in person once, in Germany many many years ago.
In my younger years I absolutely had a crush on this guy! LOL! All of his songs I knew by heart and had a couple of his albums too! I knew that this song had to be about someone that was special to him...just never figured in would be her!
Later I will post a video separately you can also do it. I just copied it from the link and pasted it here in the comment box. For the article, there is a video section below, you have to check the box and post the codes from the link. The codes will be like this

He is now working on a new album in collaboration with Rick Rubin. It will be their second together.
Diamond says that they are both excited about it. He believes it will be one of his best ever.

Thanks cgull. I have tried following it was either Chris's or David's instructions which seem easy but I just can't seem to get it right.
Maybe I need to go off in the corner and practice it until I get it right. :-)

Yeah, they'd become my favourite baseball team too if they played one of my hit songs at every home game, LOL.
Great article Picasso! He is one of the greats still around. I use to love his songs too - way back when :). Tastes change but the other day I heard him on the radio and enjoyed it still. Thanks for this. Good Find!
