Take My Breast Milk, Please

by wiccania.
Martha Heller, a 22 year old mother in Tiffin Iowa took out an ad in the local paper offering 100 ounces of breast milk for $200 or the best offer. This is milk that she's been pumping since August.
Breast milk can be stored safely in the freezer for up to 6 months, but Heller's daughter won't take a bottle so her freezer is overflowing. She does donate to the Mother's Milk Bank in Iowa, but the 100 ounces she's selling was pumped before she was screened for the program and can't be donated.

After doing research on laws against selling breast milk and not finding any, Heller opted to try and sell it.

Don McCormick, a spokesman for the Iowa Department of Public Health, said he was not aware of any laws in Iowa restricting the sale of breast milk, but that state health officials advised against it.

According to Myway.com, Heller hasn't received any legitimate calls, although she did receive 1 prank call.

I suppose it's a comfort to know that she did pass the Mother's Milk Bank screening process, but I'm not sure that I'd even consider buying breast milk from an ad in the paper. Even the idea of getting milk from one of the Milk Bank programs is a little weird to me.
