A baby giraffe, born October 24 at Boston's Franklin Park Zoo, was named 'Sox' in honor of the Red Sox four game World Series sweep of the Colorado Rockies. The giraffe was born after the Sox won their first victory.
However, the
staff held off on naming the baby giraffe because they didn't want to jinx the team's chances at other victories.
''Red,'' ''Fenway,'' ''Champion,'' and ''Boston" were other names considered.
In a statement, Zoo New England President and Chief Executive Officer John Linehan said the staff chose the name because of the female calf's long, lanky legs.
