The wedding's off - See you in court!

by Chris V. Thangham.
Instead of walking down the aisle of a church as a married a couple, the ex-lovers will walk down the aisle of a court room to fight over a $48,800 (23,866 pounds) diamond engagement ring.
Dean Kuehnen Jr., 21, when all was well between them over a year ago gave her ex-fiancée, Andria Castellano, 21, an expensive 3.23 diamond engagement ring worth over $48,800 dollars. Dean gave her the ring in December last year, but by this September the relationship took a bad turn and decided to call the wedding off.

Andria Castellano instead of returning the diamond ring decided to either destroy or sell the diamond ring for money. They had agreed previously that she will return the ring if the wedding is called off.

As a result Dean Kuehnen Jr., is suing Andria Castellano to either return the ring or give him cash in exchange for the ring. He is also seeking damages to cover the legal fees and costs according to a complaint filed in the New York State Court.

The complaint in the court says: "The sole and exclusive consideration, motivation and reason for buying the ring was the contemplated marriage".

According to the United States' Emily Post Institute that offers etiquette and manners advice said if the engagement is broken, the bride should immediately return the ring to her ex-fiancé. She should keep the ring only if it is a family heirloom of the bride’s.

Since this is not a family heirloom, the right thing is for Andria Castellano to return the ring; I hope she listens to her family and friends unless they want it to keep the ring also.

Should Andria keep the ring or return the ring? Under what circumstances she can keep the ring?
