Celebrities Make California Delinquent Tax List
All people, even the famous, must pay taxes. California makes it public when you don’t. The California Tax Board recently posted the most up to date list of people in the state who owe back taxes. Some of the more famous names have been released.
Dionne Warwick knows the way to San Jose and may soon find herself paying taxes to get there. Warwick, a hit songstress from the 60s and 70s, reportedly owes $2.6 million dating back to 1997.
David “Sinbad” Adkins, who resides in Illinois, apparently has owed the California Tax Board money dating back to 1999. The famously stand-up comedian, known for his HBO specials and role in the Cosby-produced sitcom “A Different World”, owes over $2.1 million according to the tax board records.
Orenthal “O.J.” Simpson is another celeb on the list of those who owe California back taxes. This may add onto his already lengthy legal troubles. OJ reportedly owes over $1.4 million in back taxes from September of 1999.
Despite the celebrity names on the list, there are 250 people and companies that owe at least $300,000 in back taxes. The largest company listed is Rapid American Corporation of New York, owing over $26 million since 2004. They are followed by Pacific Gateway Properties of Alexandria, Virginia ($13 million) and Saintly Inc of Carson City, Nevada ($5 million). The largest personal income tax delinquency listed belongs to Waheed U. Begum of Freemont, California, owing $10.6 million since 2002.
