When 18 year old Shawn Keiffer Newberry showed up for school in a bulletproof vest someone must have questioned the motives. He was arrested Monday night after the police questioned him.
Newberry attended classes at the Life Skills Center on East Memorial Blvd. in Lakeland, Florida. When Newberry didn't answer questions that were asked by a Lakeland police officer his car was searched. That search resulted in the find of Clear Out. Clear Out is a nonlethal gas-like spray.
Newberry revealed in an interview later with the police that he trains every weekend to find tactical ways of defeating body armour.
Since January Newberry has accumulated quite a supply of armory. Body armour, a TASER, three AK-47s, a shotgun, Clear Out grenades that included tubes to be able to shot the gas under doorways, a tactical helmet, a gas mask and about 2,000 rounds of ammo were the purchases that investigation found.
Mark McNeil turned over firearms to the Lakeland Police that belonged to his son Shawn.
Sgt. Terri Smith of the Lakeland Police Department said that videos of Newberry and four others were found that showed apparent target practices. One target that was featured in one of the videos was a Lakeland Ledger newspaper box. Also featured was the detonation of an explosive device that happened off of Winter Lake Road.
Newberry has been charged with armed trespassing, grand theft and criminal mischief by the State Attorney's Office.
