The rock band, U2, in collaboration with Irish property developers will unveil the tallest building in Ireland by 2011. The tower will have wind turbines and solar panels to provide energy for the building.
Sonny Bono along with his band mates is working with Irish developers Dublin Docklands Development Authority (DDDA) to build this giant “U2 Tower” and will make this the tallest building once completed by the year 2011. The design, chosen by DDDA and Adam Clayton from U2, was announced on October 12 2007 is by architect Norman Foster.
It will be 600 foot tall luxury apartment complex and will feature a five star hotel and 34 social and affordable flats next to it according to the Telegraph. It will also have a recording studio owned by the rock group U2 in a “pod” at the top, which will be an acoustically insulated egg shaped structure.
U2 Tower
The Norman Foster design has a tilted triangle. Besides the luxury apartments, there will be a public viewing platform at 100m, just below the U2 pod. Above this will be the energy center which contains wind turbines and a large solar panel.
The east and west facades will be crinkled in the manner of fish scales, with concealed balconies. The north facade will be sleek, while the south facade will have further solar panels.
The building will cost $280 million and the project will start next year.
If you want to live here you can play music loud as long it is U2's. It will be one of the rules for this building, just kidding. The DDDA purchased this site from U2 and wanted to revitalize the area, and this building will help the economy for sure.
