Female students at Cambridge University are working as strippers, prostitutes and escorts in order to pay for the tuition and living expenses according to the University’s student newspaper Varsity.
Cambridge University is similar to Ivy League Schools, and considered one of the top universities in the world. To hear that some of the Cambridge students work as
call girls must be shocking to most especially the parents, hope they read that report. The Varsity reported in its latest edition that it spoke to the cash strapped students who found it an easy way to make more money to support their education and living expenses. If the finish their education, they will get six figure salary but till then they feel the expenses at Cambridge University a heavy burden.
The University read the report and is shocked to hear this. Dr. Rob Wallach, secretary of the university’s senior tutor’s committee said the senior tutors will try give every support and mentoring to the students before they get involved in the prostitution.
The Varsity also said many undergraduates raise money by selling essays and make a living; Dr. Wallach wants to put a stop to this also. It seems selling essays is very widespread at Cambridge University. One student admitted to the paper that she spend her whole first year as an undergraduate working as a £50 ($100) an hour call girl. She did this despite having another day job, but said it paid less. She told the Telegraph:
I met other students who did it too. Once you've done it, it is tempting. If you need quick, easy money, it's there."
Varsity said it found another undergraduate who made up to £100 per dance as a stripper.
In the same area, an escort service claims that it has more than 400 Cambridge students and graduates charging as much as £300 a date.
This trend may be seen in universities here as well because of rising educational costs. It's a shame that countries like England and America spend billions of dollars on war but can’t provide a free education for students.
Instead of concentrating on education, these students have to resort to other means to support their education, which is dangerous and unhealthy. Expect similar trends in the future, I guess.
