Parents of the South Jeffco Sports Association in Colorado want some answers after more than $100,000 goes missing from the youth sports league, which serves more than 4,000 athletes.
According to the
Rocky Mountain News, the Jeffco Sheriff's Department is investigating the theft. As yet, there are no suspects, but association members believe that the embezzlement of the funds had to be an "inside job."
"It's pretty pathetic. I hope they find out who did it, and how, and keep it from happening again," said Gena Fowler, the parent of one young athlete.
Insurance should cover the loss, so the league isn't in danger of folding because of the incident, according to Board President Gary Losh. South Jeffco Sports Associations serves about 4,000 children in 4 sports.
That's just repulsive to me. So many youth athletic leagues are so short of funds that they have a hard time paying for qualified officials, equipment and field, court or ice time. Even if a league doesn't have money problems, to take money from a program for children is just wrong. I hope they find whoever did this, and hang them by their thumbs.
