article image75-Year-Old Woman Smashes Up Comcast Office With Hammer for poor service

By Chris V. Thangham     Oct 9, 2007 in Crime
Tired of waiting for more than a week for Cable, internet and phone installation from Comcast, a 75 year old woman became angry and frustrated. She went to Comcast's office and smashed their keyboard, monitor and telephone with a hammer.
Mona Shaw, 75 year old woman, who has a heart condition, wanted to upgrade her existing service with Comcast Triple Play installation, which provides Cable TV, Internet connection, Telephone services for one low price.
She was promised by Comcast that their technical rep will visit her by Monday, but no one came until Wednesday or any one from Comcast called and apologized about the delays. The person installed a few items but not the phone, and told her that he will fix the remaining items on Friday. He never showed up either on Friday. She needed the phone service very badly in case if she or her husband needed it for emergencies and since there are no neighbors near her home as she lives in a rural area.
The following Monday she waited for a call from Comcast, still no reasonable explanation from them.
She got tired of waiting for a week and so she took a hammer with her and said “What the hell, I’m 75” and went to the Comcast office and smashed their keyboard, monitor and telephone and told one of the payment center agents, “Have I got your attention now?”.
She got arrested because of this incident and will face the courts next week. She told
It's totally not like me to do stuff like this...But it is so irresponsible and so disrespectful [what they did]. I can't think of any company reacting that way. It's like they got you in their clutches and they'll do what they damn well please."
Comcast apologized after this incident and promised her they will send someone to fix the installation right away, but Shaw cancelled the service and switched them to Verizon.
In the article, Comcast seems to have a number of problems in relation to customer service, so the county is planning to cancel their services.
I totally understand with Mrs. Shaw outburst, it is just disrespectful the way some companies treat their customers; they deserve a better service than the lengthy delays and no follow ups. Also, here Comcast should have shown more respect for Mrs. Shaw. The judge will hopefully let her go easy this time as long she assures she will contain her anger the next time.
Do you agree with Mrs. Shaw’s actions?
