Wall Street mixed in holiday trading

Major US stock indices were mixed Monday in light holiday trading.
During the US observance of Columbus Day, Monday was the slowest full-day trading session of 2007 on the New York Stock Exchange.
The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 22.38 points, or 0.16 per cent, to 14,043.73. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 5.01 points, or 0.32 per cent, to 1,552.58. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index gained 7.05 points, or 0.25 per cent, to 2,787.37.
The US currency jumped to 71.205 euro cents Monday from 70.75 euro cents on Friday in New York. The dollar rose against the Japanese currency to 117.41 yen from 117.01 yen on Friday.
Gold lost 8.50 dollars to 738.70 dollars per fine ounce. dpa ff
