Norwegian food store offers customers full money-back guarantee

by dpa news.
Customers at Norwegian retail chain Coop can in future get a full cash refund for food and drinks that do not taste as good as they had anticipated, a newspaper report said Monday.

"Competition in the sector is so stiff that we have to do our best to entice customers," spokesman Vidar Ullenrod was quoted as telling tabloid Verdens Gang.

The Norwegian cooperative chain said customers would be allowed to get full compensation even if they had eaten a food item.

"Just bring the package, the item or a receipt. We trust the customer. It is sufficient to say you are not satisfied," he added.

Ullenrod said Coop did not rule out that some customers would frequently use the money-back guarantee.

"It is however important to state that we will be extra observant in regard to alcoholic beverages," he said.

Consumer rights ombudsman Bjorn Erik Thon said he had no criticism of the offer, as long as Coop kept its side of the bargain. dpa lsm wjh
