China Bans Canadian Poultry: Bird Flu Blamed

by Bob Ewing.
China has issued a ban on all Canadian poultry and has joined the United States and Japan in doing so, the recent ban is based upon the recent outbreak of avian flu in Saskatchewan.
Avian flu is the reason China has banned Canadian poultry. The recent outbreak of the H7N3 strain of avian flu in Saskatchewan has caused the Chinese government to all imports of Canadian poultry.

China joins the United States and Japan in issuing a ban.

The notice that was sent to the Canadian Agriculture Ministry is dated September 30, 2007 and states that any shipments arriving in China will be destroyed or returned.

The highly pathogenic N7N3 strain was found at the Pedigree Poultry farm which is about 40 kilometres north of Regina, and approximately 50,000 chickens were destroyed as a result of this outbreak.
