Boy In Court For Possessing Anarchists' Cookbook

The fear and terror continues. Now a 17 year old British teenager who is accused of simply possessing material for terrorist purposes has appeared in court and was then given bail.
BBC is reporting that he allegedly he had a copy of the "Anarchists' Cookbook", containing instructions on how to make home-made explosives.

The next court hearing has been set for 25 October. He faces two charges under the Terrorism Act 2000.

The first charge relates to his alleged possession of material for terrorist purposes in October last year. The second has to do with the collection or possession of information useful in the preparation of an act of terrorism.

They say he stood in the dock wearing a baggy, blue hooded top and only spoke to confirm his name and date of birth. He was probably to scared to even open his mouth.

After the hearing which lasted 40 minutes, the teenager was released on bail under several conditions.

Interestingly, there is a second 17-year-old who is facing similar charges and has already been remanded in custody and will also appear at the Crown Court in October.

I can't find any more info, but it seems as if he is being charged for simply having a book.

These are scary times. People are too scared and so rights get trampled on. If he had some sort of bad intent, then fine. But if he only had a book, then shame on the entire system.

With all the problems that they have had with people who have made bombs using the Anarchist's Cookbook...you would think that darned thing would be banned.

They can have my copy when they pry it out of my cold dead hands! Information does not kill people, ignorance kills people. Just because I buy a hammer, and COULD use it to beat someone's head in, does not mean that the government has the right to ban hammers.

Part of the right to keep and bear arms is the right to fight the government if they deserve it and the knowledge of how to do that is just as important as the artillery handbooks that book seller, and later general, Henry Knox used to teach himself how to fight the British.

We can't make ourselves safe by mandating ignorance.

    Well said.

They can try to "ban" the book all they want. That book has been around for decades and has more useful ways to survive with no money than anything else out there. There's some fringe element stuff in it, but it's not all they are saying it is.

Too many copies of it floating around and too many punk/hardcore kids who crave to own it.

I was under the impression that one could find it online with no problem. I was never aware that this cookbook existed until my ex-husband told me about it some 14 years ago.

I can understand your points, lensman and Just Joe...and maybe it shouldn't be banned per se, and I realize too that owning it doesn't make you a bomber or terrorist.

I personally do not own a copy, but yes, it is fairly easy to find online versions.

Thanks for the information! I was just curious, but have never been inspired to try looking more into it. These days, if I did find it, I'd almost be afraid that within 24 hours of looking it, the FBI would be knocking on my door! LOL!

By the way, you can also download it off the internet for free.

I got my copy back in the 1970's and it is of more sentimental value than practical application. Many of the formulas are wrong, sometimes fatally wrong and one can end up blowing oneself up by accident. Fortunately the Army gave me far better training.

To make napalm, for example, all one has to do is to dissolve Styrofoam in gasoline until no more will dissolve. Back in the day we use to use laundry detergent for the same purpose. Pour the mixture into wine bottles (they are more "romantic"), add rag fuse and presto! One Molotov Cocktail.

I think that was about the time my ex got his copy. Long before he and I were together, but he did tell me about it.
