As the Canadian loonie rises in value travel may be on your mind. Taxes are also there if you've booked a flight lately in Canada. If you live close enough to the border of the United States you can save money by driving to an airport there instead.
Airport improvement fees are also being increased adding Canadian air fare up the scale. The list below shows the current fees that are added onto each ticket. That is not factoring in the higher taxes.
Airport Improvement Fees
Bathurst, N.B. $40
Calgary $20
Charlottetown $15
Edmonton $15
Fredericton $15
Gander, N.L. $15
Halifax $10
Montreal $15
Ottawa $15
Quebec City $15
Regina $15
Saint John, N.B. $15
Saskatoon $10
St. John's, N.L. $15
Sydney, N.S. $25
Toronto Pearson (connecting flights) $8
Toronto Pearson (originating flights) $20
Vancouver (within province and Yukon) $5
Vancouver (outside province) $15

So how much of a difference are tickets from Toronto to Orlando for a week at Disney compared to Buffalo to Orlando.
I compared the rates for a family of four (using teenager ages) at travelcity on AOL using just airfare and then on package deals.
First for the Canadian travel information.
With Northwest Airlines with one stop the best prices were found. The total cost was $1584. That is for round trip.
On a package deal with hotel added in the total cost is at the
Legacy Grand Hotel and Suites is $1784
Now for trekking down to Buffalo your savings are pretty nice.
Northwest Airlines doesn't fly out of Buffalo but Delta does. The cost with Delta is $1,014.40.
The package deal comes to using the same hotel the package is $1,234.
That extra $500 can come in handy on vacation. Of course you have to get to Buffalo but consider that the round trip bus fare is $32 dollars and a taxi is about $35 from the bus station to the airport with tip that comes to just about $175.00. Do the math.
