Now on the list of recalled products is a Boy Scout badge that is commonly passed out to 7-8 year old scouts. Yes it was made in China and yes it has been tested to have unacceptable levels of lead and it has been on the market for eight years.
To the general public if you know of any scouts in your area please alert their parents or family members to this recall.
Check out the picture for the exact badge and the following is a description of the recalled product:
It is a square badge with the outside border colored yellow with a second border inside that one that is blue. It has the pictures of a bear and wolf side by side in blue, with the words "Progress Towards Ranks" also in blue. Above them is a yellow shield.
This badge is generally passed out to the 7-8 year-old range and comes in a package called the Immediate Recognition kit #01804, but to be on the safe side if you have a scout check for this badge and remove it and keep it in a place where only adults can access.
The scoutstuff.org website does state that the badge can be returned to them if you are a retailer of the product. Though purchasers are advised to wait for further instructions.
The Boy Scouts of America has directed all of its Scout Shops and all retailers who sell the product to remove it from their shelves immediacy and return it to us. Purchasers will be advised by Kahoot as to further action to be taken.
These badges have been supplied to the Boy Scouts through the Kahoot Products, Inc. company and made in China and distributed through Roswell, Georgia for Kahoot Products Inc. for approximately eight years and the voluntary recall covers the whole eight years worth of sales. As of this time the Kahoot website has no information on the recall on their website and the only contact option under customer care is to fill out an auto email and wait for a response, no phone numbers are listed on the site.
The unacceptable lead levels were found during a test of the 39 products Kahoot sells to the Boy Scouts and the one badge failed to pass the acceptable lead levels. The information was given in a letter by the President, Chuck Kelderhouse of Kahoot Products, Inc. to the National Supply Group Boys Scouts of America dated October 2, 2007.
The phone numbers listed in the letter for Kahoot does give you the option for customer service but that takes you to a recording that states that if you are calling regarding the recall they will be having a press release in the next few days with further information. Also that no one has been harmed from this badge and this is a voluntary recall they have started after they learned of the lead levels Sept. 27th.
