Have you always dreamed of owning a convertible but was concerned about its safety. If that has been your main concern think again about Ford's 2008 Mustang convertible a real dream of an automobile.
Ford Motor Company has announced that its 2008 Mustang convertible has been awarded top marks in federal crash tests. It is the first time that a sports convertible has been awarded top marks. It was awarded after side air bags became standard by Ford.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the 2008 Mustang convertible five out of five stars in front and side crash protection for both the driver and the passengers. The car also was awarded five stars for resistance to rollover accidents.
On 2007 models air bags were an option.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration rarely will run crash tests on convertibles. It focuses on the more popular vehicles as it does not have the money to test every car and truck.
Only five 2008 convertible models were tested which included the Mustang.
Chrysler's Sebring was awarded four stars for driver-side crashes and their roll-over resistance, but five stars in the other tests. Four stars were awarded to the Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky and Volkswagen Beetle in their crash tests. NHTSA is still planning to test the Nissan 350Z convertible.
Mustang was ranked by the the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety earlier this year. It was ranked middle of the class in their crash tests. They ranked it as acceptable in front collisions and good in side-impact safety.
My brother who lives in California is now driving at least in his third Mustang convertible. He and his wife who also has her own Mustang convertible love the car.
The last time I was out there she was teasing him that her car was faster than his.
