Oct 10, 2007 - Czech Couple Decide to Swap Their Babies - 6 comments

To silence gossip can lead to results that you never anticipated.
You want to stop all those gossipers that you hang around with. Be careful of what you do to prove them wrong.
The friendly pub had a lot of gossiping going on about a Czechs couple's 10-month old baby girl..

The couple are from the town of Trebic.

The gossip was going on because the baby was a little blond but both of the parents have dark hair.

Their drinking friends suspicions really started getting on their nerves. So to put to silence all the gossip the couple decided that they would have DNA tests done so that they could prove the baby was their own child.

All concerned got a very shocking surprise. The baby's DNA did not match either of the parents.

The Czech news agency CTK reported the news which suggests a mix-up at the hospital.

Needless to say the authorities are now looking into this case.

What a shock this would be. Would you even have wanted to find this out after having this baby for 10 months and thinking she was yours?

Thats terrible, the parents had to go through all the nightmares. The baby switch seems to be a recurring problem. Hope the couple find the right baby and also this baby find its right mother. In my family my brothers and sister used to tease me that I was switched at birth and made me cry :), I will get them some time later on :)

I was also teased as my two sisters both had dark hair and darker skin then I have. I was the blond and had lighter skin.

When my two brothers were born several years later they also were/are ones with fair skin and blonds.

With as often as this happens maybe a DNA test should be taken of the mother and baby before they leave the hospital.

A problem would be after ten months the parents and the baby will already be bonded.

So very true, Picasso. I come from a family where both parents and my brother and sister have brown eyes and I have blue. My mom always joked around and said that I was really the milkman's daughter! (Our dad was a diary farmer! LOL!)

Three of my children have brown eyes like my husband and I do.
My youngest has blue eyes. My one brother-in-law, the jerk, was always making snide remarks about her being the milkman's daughter.

When I talked to one of my brothers he said it was because of recessive genes.

My two brothers and my dad had the blue eyes.

Picasso...that's what I was always told, about the recessive genes. Now my dad's sister's kids, they all had blue eyes even though one parent had brown eyes. It's just funny how things like this comes out.

    DNA testing - $99.00
Hi - above is the link to just one of several companies I located online that will do DNA testing. Since you have located your half brothers, then it would be my assumption that if you and one of the brothers had your DNA tested to see if you shared DNA, that would prove that you had the same father, which would then prove to the mother that is questioning that fact. I am no DNA expert, but the link I provided has a toll free number, so I would assume they would be able to help you further. For $99.00 you could perhaps solve the mystery once and for all. Maybe if you and your two brothers shared in the cost - that would only be $33.00 a piece. I think they'd be willing to find out as well??

Hope that helps you - be sure to keep us posted as to what you do and find out. :-)

(ps: if the link I provided doesn't give you good answers, you can just type "cheap DNA testing at home" into google and you'll find tons of sites)

    Best wishes!

Missing Parent Test - Hi, me again. I just was reading further on the site I sent you. Seems the best way would be if the parents of the father could be located. I don't know if that is possible or not. It does say that other methods may work and to contact them at (866) 833-6895 to discuss it.

    Again, hope this helps!

How come you couldn't just overnight mail it to the place in the US? They take VISA - I guess I don't see what difference that would make one way or the other............

there is a big difference. and that is. i would only wait a couple of days for them to send the test and i wouldn't have so long to wait for the results. i don't want to wait for shipping and stuff. Debbie

It would probably be one of the worst shocks anyone could get.
