A cut out policeman was stolen from a grocery in Long Eaton, Derbyshire. The cut out was supposed to deter shoplifters instead it was the target of a shoplifting heist. The cardboard cop is the likeness of PC Bob Molloy and had been doing a great job.
The thief paid for his food goods and then waltzed out of the store toting Officer Cardboard under his arm. Derbyshire police though have a good idea of who to look for according to an Ananova report. The bloke was caught on film departing the store with his new best friend.
The £100 cardboard Molloy had deterred shoplifting from 36 per month to just one in the two years he has been on the job. Not bad for a security guard that never asks for a raise or a quick trip to the loo.
Insp Andy Picken said: "We were using the cut-out as a way of engaging more with the local community, so it is a bit disappointing.
"We are pursuing lines of inquiry and hope to have some good news soon."
