An angry student opened fire and took hostages at a school in Oroville in northern California Friday but surrendered to police without causing any injuries.
Local radio station KNVN reported that the unidentified student fired a shot in the air and that two female students were held hostage in the high school's band room.
Police negotiated with the gunman for about an hour before he was persuaded to give up his weapon and surrender. dpa ag aw
