article imageWanted Rapist May Be HIV Positive

By Debra Myers     Sep 23, 2007 in Crime
The police in Salt Lake City, Utah are looking for a man that has been accused of raping a 14 year old girl, and might be HIV positive. Cristians Michell Ortiz, 22, is charged with rape, and two counts of forcible sodomy, which are first degree felonies.
As well, he is also charged with a second degree felony of forcible sexual abuse.
The victim is the daughter of a woman that Ortiz was friends with and this is how he gained access to the house. It's unknown how the police obtained the information, but what they have said is that the girl was raped once in July and again was raped in August. It is unknown if the girl has been tested for HIV since she was assaulted.
Ortiz could possibly face other charges if it's found that he is HIV positive, and that he possibly knew that he was HIV positive prior to the rapes. It will be determined by the district attorney when the time comes.
Under Utah law, a person convicted of prostitution, patronizing a prostitute or sexual solicitation - after being tested for and diagnosed with HIV - can be charged with a third-degree felony. The law, however, does not specifically cover a sexual assault perpetrated by an HIV positive.
Ortiz is said to frequent downtown Salt Lake City nightclubs. He is 6 feet tall, weighs 195 pounds with short black hair. As well, he may be driving a white Infinity.
On August 31 a warrant was issued for Ortiz's arrest and he was charged in the 3rd District Court. Bail was set at $500,000.
The police are asking that if there are any other victims, to please contact them. Anyone with any information is asked to call: 801-799-3000.
This man sounds like a real piece of work. Hopefully, someone will step forward and turn this creep in before there are any more victims.
