Kid Nation has had a lot of attention both good and bad. Last night was its debut with 40 kids, ages 8 to 15, as the new town residents. How entertaining was the show and is it worth watching again?
TV critics were not allowed by CBS to see the show before it aired last night.
The 40 children are to run a ghost town in New Mexico on their own. They are to create their own society without the aid and advice of adults.
The show follows closely to the way Survivor is structured. But in Kid Nation no one gets eliminated. The kids have to try to get along and there are competitions to win.
The show started with most of the kids being dropped off by a yellow school bus. Some of the kids seemed nervous as they were observing where they were.
After those kids were dropped off and the bus drove away a helicopter arrived bringing the four members of the town council members.
Can't have the politicians arriving with the rest of the kids.
The kids had to haul heavy wagons loaded with supplies to the town.
When it came to getting some kind of dinner cooked it was obvious no one was prepared to be a cook for 40 people. Which made me wonder why the children's mothers didn't give them some lessons in basic cooking. Like how to boil water and how to cook macaroni.
With the first contest the four different teams won who would be the upper class, the merchants, the cooks and last the laborers. A good lesson in life isn't always fair.
They did learn to work together so they as a whole could win the first reward. The first reward was the choice between a TV or seven much needed out houses. The town council members did the deciding. Thankfully they choose the out houses.
Many were home sick and the youngest, a cute little 8 year-old decided at the end to go home.
At the end, Sophia, a hard worker, was selected to win the gold star which was worth $20,000.
Will I watch it again? Still undecided if it is all that interesting.
At times I found it annoying as I watched some of the bullying that went on.
They did seem to be learning to work together though.
