A German pensioner won the €2 million ($2.77 million dollars) prize money in a lottery, but is refusing the cash. He says he doesn’t know what to do with it and wants the lottery association to keep the money.
The 70 year old German from Hameln, Lower Saxony won the lottery, but is not to keen on collecting the winnings. He claimed he got the ticket out of a habit because his late wife was a passionate player.

After he realized he was the winner of the €2 million lottery prize, he went to the German lottery association headquarters in Hanover and told them he doesn’t want the money.

He reportedly told them, he doesn’t know what to do with the money, since he has no living relatives near him. His wife is dead, parents are dead and he has no children and no other relatives.

Lottery officials are trying to persuade him to accept this lottery, if he doesn’t collect it, probably add it to the next lottery prize.

Unusual player, maybe he could have collected it and gave it to charity. He must be the first person in the world to refuse the lottery money.

Have you heard of such a thing?

I was thinking the same thing cgull.

Why doesn't he take the money and give it to a charity or several different charities of his choosing.

I agree! I would be happy to set up a charity that he could give the money to! ;o)

That could help a lot of poor people in Germany or give the money to the local schools.

Maybe he will come to his sense and do just that! First time I've ever heard of anyone denying money!

I can understand how he would rather just have the lottery keep the money, as maybe he is scared of being bothered by persona non gratas, suddenly crawling out of the woodwork to ask for money.

As for the charity idea, it is also a good solution, but maybe again he didn't really want to be bothered. If I were him, I would stop playing, in case it happened again! ¦¬)

How can anyone not know what to do with money? That is one of the most ridiculous things that someone can say. It can be given to charity, it can be used for children or sick friends or family. It could also be used toward medical aid for many soldiers who have returned home and are having trouble when it comes to getting the proper care for their illnesses or disabilities.

Good point, maybe he is fearing it may happen to him also. But at least he should keep it to help him in the Bank if he needs it for emergencies.
