This has been the week for attack ads, resolutions condemning them, and now more attack ads. Rudy Giuliani called out Hillary Clinton today in a full page ad in the New York Times.
There was quite an upset this week over the MoveOn.org ad attacking General Petraeus before his congressional testimony on Iraq. Republicans were so incensed, they drafted a resolution condemning the ad, and seeking condemnation from Democratic lawmakers.
With all of the pressing issues the US faces today, is this resolution the best use of Congress' time?
Some lawmakers added their own negative comments. Senator Hillary Clinton, a Democratic frontrunner in the presidential race, said the General’s report required "willing suspension of disbelief," as quoted by The Washington Post.
The original ad and following statements seem to have prompted Republican presidential frontrunner and former Mayor of New York City, Rudy Giuliani, to take out an ad of his own.
In the ad, shown here (and followed by a request for a contribution) he calls out Senator Clinton specifically, and concludes with,"These times call for statesmanship, not politicians spewing political venom."
The Washington Post also states that the MoveOn ad was sold at a discounted rate, which Giuliani will also receive. MoveOn intends to continue being vocal and will soon include TV spots. Freedom’s Watch, a group that supports President Bush and the current Iraq policy, per the Post, is planning ads as well. This group is also demanding the same discount that was given MoveOn.org.
