Detroit, Michigan police announced the arrest yesterday of 59-year-old James Shannon who has been accused of impersonating a police officer and extorting almost $40,000 from several victims.
For seven months Shannon went after older victims, from 69 to 92 years of age, to con them out of a substantial amount of money.

Police are reporting that Shannon used a fake police badge to gain the trust of his victims. He then would tell the victim he was conducting a robbery investigation and that he needed them to donate money to help him pursue his investigation.

Witnesses said Shannon showed them posters of the people wanted by police and he was very convincing in his story. Seven victims fell for the con job and gave Shannon large amounts of money.

There is also a second suspect whom police are searching for.
