Amsterdam mayor proposes three-day wait for magic mushrooms

By RobotGod     Sep 11, 2007 in World
A bummer of a new proposal from the mayor of Amsterdam is sure to be considered a drag by certain visitors to the Dutch city: a three-day waiting period to buy hallucinogenic mushrooms.
breitbart reports that Mayor Job Cohen wants to require the wait period in order to allow magic mushroom buyers to fully understand exactly what it is they are purchasing.
Their aim is to prevent impulse purchases, and this move follows several incidents that have occurred in the city involving tourists who have eaten hallucinogenic mushrooms (also known as psilocybin).
For example, in March, a 17-year-old French girl killed herself by jumping from a bridge in the city after she ate mushrooms.
With this proposal, potential mushroom buyers would have to show I.D. papers when visiting one of the "smart shops" where they are sold in the tolerant city. Then they could be given a card with the date listed on it, as well as fliers with information on the mushrooms in question. Three days after that, they can get the mushrooms.
Bummer, dude. The man just keeps bringing us down, man.
