An iTunes error shown to a customer accidentally gives hints that it may start selling movie rentals at its store very soon. Apple iTunes currently sell movies, but with movie rentals there is a good possibility it can make a big impact.
There have been rumors about Apple iTunes selling movie rentals, but none have been confirmed at best. But this
website gives a clear indication that iTunes will be selling movie rentals soon.
When a customer was trying to get a refund for his music purchase, he saw the mishap hints at a possible upcoming movie rental service that may become a part of the iTunes store.
It showed the following image in the iTunes store:
The option link about requesting the refunds shows an option for non-delivery of rental movies, accidental purchase, poor quality, duplicate purchase, wrong version, bad metadata and “other”. Just one option can be considered an error, but when they have so many options for returning movies, it is obvious Apple plans to launch this movie rental service soon.
Apple said it would
cost a reported $2.99 to keep a movie for 30 days, and would have the ability to be viewed on one other device, such as the iPod or iPhone. Digital management rights will keep the movies from being copied to other devices.
Apple is negotiating with several movie studios including Disney, Paramount; if they agree to the terms then Apple will soon launch this service.
If you have Apple TV, the downloaded movies in iTunes can then be watched in big screen TVs or if you just want to watch in your iPhone, iPod Nano, iPod Touch, and other video enabled iPods, you will have a choice as well.
