Definitely for girls who want to go green while retaining a certain modish chic. Vogue has provided its list of 30 tips on how to save the world while still managing to turn heads. reports that the list of planet-friendly fashion ideas has been branded as “eco chic".
It includes such innovations as bamboo bras, compostable lipsticks and even eco-jeans. There are even biodegradable surfboards.
It is not without Controversy. At the top of the magazine’s list is a bag designed by Lauren Bush, the 23-year-old niece of President George Bush. Let's face it, his green credentials seem to be limited to a walk on the White house lawn.
Its spot at the top of the list follows the clamour from British shoppers earlier this year to get their hands on Anya Hindmarch’s £5 “I’m Not a Plastic Bag” bag. Vogue is tipping Ms Bush’s $59.95 (£30) Feed 2 Bag as the next hot alternative to plastic bags.
Ms Bush's bag was designed for the United Nations’ World Food Programme. It is a burlap and muslin bag, a luxury version of her original Feed Bag. It will go on sale in Harrods later this month. The profit from the sale of one bag will feed two children for a year.
“It represents a small solution, one bag at a time,” Ms Bush said. Yes, it does sound like something George would say. Excuse me while I shake myself free of his voice.
The list appears in the October issue of Vogue, and also includes shops and small businesses that provide eco-friendly solutions to the needs of fashionistas.
One is apparently so ahead of its time that it has not even opened yet. Eco, founded by actor Colin Firth appears at number eight on the list. It is described as “a shop to fulfil all eco-home dreams”. It is supposed to open later this month in Chiswick, West London. Firth’s wife Livia Giuggioli told the magazine:
“We’re keen not to be portrayed as eco-warriors. We want to empower people at a time when it’s practically immoral not to care about the planet.”
And of course, there is lingerie. From organic cotton underwear provided by GreenKnickers, to bamboo bras.
Sure they want you to go all eco, but making money never hurts. If you must be fashionable I guess you can at least be green. I am not sure that bamboo bras can be a turn on, but then again I am no panda.
